What does humankind mean to you?
It’s about loving one another, every person is the same, we’re all human and we all have issues and we all love. I really think the word “Humankind” just means being one with others and the world.
What’s the best advice that you could give to someone who wants to be an ally?
Stand with the injustice that is and has happened. Try and be as understanding as possible, and be as sympathetic as you can be. Even if you’ll never fully understand- we need you to support, allies are just as important as people in the community!
Can you tell us a time when you might have been discriminated against? Or felt unimportant? Or a time when you had self-doubt? How did you overcome that type of adversity?
When I came out at 20, I lost a group of friends based on the fact that I was gay. I grew up in a small town in Florida, and they had never met or known a gay person. I doubted myself and thought I should stop telling people, but then I realized that I had to be myself and if those people didn’t understand that, they weren’t truly meant to be in my life anyway.
What’s your greatest wish for the world?
Simple: let’s just all get along. Stop the discrimination against each other. We’re all in this together.
This month is pride month. Through recent events this word extends beyond the LGBTQ+ community. What is pride to you?
I think it means coming together as a community. Showing that we’re proud to be who we are, even through adversity we stand tall and proud to be who we are.
If there were one word that you could use to solve the world’s problems, what would it be and why?
Understanding. I think it’s what we need right now. I think a lot of people don’t understand what groups and communities go through, and if we could all try and understand one another, it would probably help the injustice somewhat.
